Who are we?

A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

ACM-W IBADAN was chattered in 2021. This chapter was facilitated by Prof. (Mrs.) Oluwasefunmi Arogundade who is the founding chair. The first student chair was Mrs Ikotun Abiodun succeeded by Mrs. Ojo Oluwafolake now Dr. (Mrs.) Ojo Oluwafolake. The current chair is Mrs Tinubu Oreoluwa.

AWARDS

Starting in 2006, ACM-W has offered an annual Athena Lecturer Award to honor outstanding women researchers who have made fundamental contributions to computer science. ACM-W also offers an ACM-W Networking Award for active student chapters.

SCHOLARSHIPS

ACM-W provides support for women undergraduate and graduate students in Computer Science and related programs to attend research conferences. The ACM-W scholarships are offered for both intra-continental conference travel, and intercontinental conference travel. Scholarship applications are evaluated in 6 groups each year, to distribute awards across a range of conferences.

Success stories

Two postgraduate students under the supervision of Prof. (Mrs) O.T. Arogundade, the faculty sponsor of ACM-W IBADAN chapter in the department of Computer Science, were selected for ACM Future of Computing Academy in 2019 out of 36 selected all over the world

The Association for Computing Machinery's Council on Women in Computing (ACM-W) is ACM's Community of Support for Women in Computing. ACM-W supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field.

Prof. Oluwasefunmi Tale Arogundade

PROF. OLUWASEFUNMI TALE AROGUNDADE

Chair

Oluwasefunmi Tale Arogundade is a Professor of Software Engineering and a team lead of SMARTAGRO research cluster at the Department of Software Engineering and Information Systems, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Nigeria. She bagged a PhD in Computer Software and Theory from Graduate University Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China. She was awarded OWSD postgraduate fellowship in 2008 for a period of three years for her PhD programme. She is a beneficiary of IFUW award in 2011 and a Co-fellow of Amy Mahan research fellowship in 2010. A beneficiary of 3rd Heidelberg laureate forum in 2015, and a member of AlumNode and German Scholar organization. She won TWAS-DFG Postdoc fellowship to Germany in 2014. She is a beneficiary of both National and International grants. She is the chair of ACM-W Ibadan Nigeria chapter and the pioneer Dean of the College of Computing Sciences, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. She has over hundred (100) publications to her credit.

Prof. BAALE Abimbola Adebisi

PROF. BAALE ABIMBOLA ADEBISI

Co-Chair

Professor of Computer Science, Current HOD, Department of Information Systems at LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Nigeria. Formerly, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology; First Female Director, LAUTECH ICT Centre; Assistant General Secretary, National Association of Women in Academics (NAWACS) etc. She has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students (Masters and PhD), and is a full member of the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS), Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), and Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She has authored a number of articles in journals and conference proceedings covering various aspects of computing, delivered numerous public lectures on topics ranging from ICT to academic and societal issues, and been involved in various research projects and collaborations including a British Council sponsored project. She has secured grants from TETFund and collaborative research grants, and has been actively involved in teaching, research, and mentoring students for over 16 years. She is an external examiner for various journals and has participated in several national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars related to computing and education. She is also a Climate Change activist and a Girl-Child advocate.

DR. OLUWAFOLAKE ESTHER OJO

Acting Head, Department of Information Technology, Osun State University, Nigeria. Dr. Oluwafolake Ojo is a dynamic researcher and educator driving innovation in computer networks and intelligent system design. From her early academic career at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, to her current role as Acting Head of the Department of Information Technology at Osun State University, Osun State, Nigeria, she has championed women's advancement in tech through impactful ACM-W leadership and as a co-investigator in transformative funded research such as the SMARTSOIL project. A 2021 recipient of the prestigious Heidelberg Laureate Forum Young Researcher Award and a member of AlumNode, a global network of young researchers from the Heidelberg Laureate Forum and the German Scholars Organization, Dr. Ojo is passionate about mentoring the next generation of African tech leaders and building inclusive, future-ready digital ecosystems.

Dr. Orobosade Adewunmi Alabi

DR. OROBOSADE ADEWUNMI ALABI

Secretary

Alabi Orobosade Adewunmi is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, where she is actively involved in teaching and research, specializing in cyber security, data mining, and intelligent systems. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Federal University of Technology, Akure. She is a member of organizations such as the Association for Computing Machinery, Nigeria Computer Society, and the Computer Professionals of Nigeria. She has also held leadership roles in academic committees, conferences, and community initiatives. Her work has attracted research funding, including a TETFund-supported project (2025) focused on leveraging digital tools to address social issues in tertiary institutions. Dr. Alabi continues to contribute to advancing computing research and mentoring the next generation of technology professionals.
